Building Confidence in Mass Production: Pre-Production Checklists

Transitioning from a working bench prototype to a high-volume assembly line is the most high-risk phase of product development. Many startups fail here due to a lack of structured pre-production verification.

Pre-production consists of Pilot Runs, EVT (Engineering Verification Test), DVT (Design Verification Test), and PVT (Production Verification Test). Each phase has specific check-gates.

"Before scaling your manufacturing output, you must build confidence in your assembly line fixtures and testing rigs."

Verification Test Phases

EVT checks that the design runs under thermal and electrical stress. DVT verifies that the housing, plastics, and layout meet mechanical specifications. PVT uses mass-production tooling to run a pilot batch at rate, verifying assembly processes.

Quality Control Documentation

Creating clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Go/No-Go fixtures for factory workers prevents defects. Integrating functional testing rigs at the end of the line ensures every unit shipped works out of the box.
